The dual LiDAR, and why it matters

Dual-LiDAR navigation combined with AI vision generates a holographic map advertised as accurate to 2 cm, including at nightC. The point is not raw performance but independence: no satellite signal is required. On a tree-filled lawn, surrounded by walls or crossed by eaves — exactly where an RTK system loses its fix and leaves unmown strips — that is what separates a robot that works from a robot that ends up in the shed. Setup is advertised in 15 minutes, without a reference station to installC.

The edging cutter: a different approach

Where the other models on this page offset their cutting disc to get close to edges, the GOAT A1600 carries a real TruEdge edging cutter with rotating flexible linesC. Mechanically, it is closer to what a gardener does with a brush cutter, and it handles the corners the chassis cannot reach. The trade-off is one more consumable to manage — the supplied kit even includes replacement line and coversC, which says a lot about replacement frequency.

Throughput and terrain

The 32 V platform and twin-blade system are advertised for mowing three times more efficiently, at 0.7 m/s, i.e. up to 400 m² per hourC. On 1,600 m², this throughput is not a luxury: at 200 m²/h, the same area would require twice the machine time and wear. Slopes of up to 50%C are the best value on this page, ahead of the 45% of the LiDAX Ultra and the YUKA 2000. The cutting height adjusts from 3 to 9 cm in 1 cm stepsC.

What should make you hesitate

The price, clearly above the rest of the selection. The Amazon.co.uk offer is also narrowA, which can complicate a quick replacement or access to parts. Finally, the line edging cutter adds a consumable to watch, where offset-disc models have none. On a lawn under 500 m² with no particular difficulty, the investment is hard to justify.

Why prefer LiDAR over RTK on a large lawn?

Because RTK depends on the satellite signal: dense trees, tall walls and eaves disturb it, and the robot then leaves unmown areas. The dual LiDAR maps with laser, without that dependency, including at night.

Does the TruEdge edging cutter really replace the brush cutter?

It comes closer than offset-disc systems, since it uses a rotating line like a real edging cutter. That line will however need periodic replacement: the supplied kit includes spares.

Is 1,600 m² realistic?

As always, allow 20 to 30% of margin: the advertised area assumes an open, single-plot lawn. The advertised throughput of 400 m²/h nonetheless makes this capacity credible in mowing time.

Why is it only third despite its specs?

Because cost of ownership weighs 10% of our score and the price is by far the highest on this page, with a narrow Amazon.co.uk offer. On purely technical criteria, it is ahead.
